A Call to Action

If people were measured by character and heart,
and ceased uttering words that tear us apart,
If we treated each other with dignity and respect,
and virtue and morality kept capitalism in check,
If we embraced our diversity, and through it grew strong,
and stood hand in hand, and all got along,
If our leaders were righteous and spoke only the truth,
and along with all parents, were role models to youth,
If attorneys were paid when we all got along,
and did right and good and did not reward wrong.
If doctors and dentists ensured that we all know health,
and medications cured illness and were not used for wealth.
If politicians behaved as our trusted servants,
and parties and interests we accountable observants,
If justice and law were both equal and fair,
and farmers and teachers earned a larger share,
If the media reported with devotion to the fact,
and a word and a handshake were stronger than a contract,
If marketers and salesmen stopped spreading lies,
and technology was safe, from thieves and spies,
If business was conducted with ethics and honor,
and we could all say “hello” without fear of the phone caller,
If all dressed in uniform would serve and protect,
and if, we as citizens, showed gratitude and respect,
Great would describe, the sum of us all,
and borders would unite with no reason to wall.
My call to action is not an illusion,
We each have a part; let there be no confusion.
It takes more than thought, more than wishes and prayers,
To improve our world, Our responsibility to our heirs.
