Rhyme of Roses

Roses, to many, are the most precious of flowers,

Throughout history symbolic of love, life, and powers.

The ancient Greeks associated roses with Aphrodite,

To the Virgin Mary, roses identified, in Christianity.

The Song of Songs compares roses to early Jews,

In Israel roses symbolize royalty and bridegrooms.

The rose is the national flower of England,

And five US States, and cities Pasadena and Portland.

Roses are symbolic of various political ideologies,

Forms of love, romance, literature, and philosophies,

In arrangements and colors different meanings are found,

In almost every country, roses are grown world around.

In the absence of roses, no flower garden complete,

There are numerous varieties, most fragrant and sweet.

Roses can grow at altitudes, over a mile above the sea.

There are roses in some pasties, and roses flavor some tea.

For first dates a single rose gift should always be red,

A timeless symbol of passion, and love, it is said.

A second date bouquet that may lead to a first kiss,

Buy lavender, a symbol, of intrigue, enchantment, and bliss.

There are many other colors and meanings defined,

If you memorize this poem, they will remain in your mind.

Beginning with white roses symbolic of things pure,

Humility, respect, hope, and innocence, I am sure.

An ivory rose, tinted yellow, something similar is meant,

They show affection and admiration, without romantic intent.

A yellow rose symbolizes happiness, positivity, good vibes,

The are given to show friendship, care, support, and strong ties.

Some of these meanings have changed through the years,

White roses once meant there was no romance near.

Yellow roses that once were received from another,

Meant you were the object of a jealous lover!

A peach rose is considered the most feminine,

Are for engagement, new relationships, and pure affection.

A cream rose that is pure and without other tone,

Are gifted to those sick, showing benevolent intention.

Orange roses signify that you are head over heels,

Excited, energetic, and you want to share how you feel,

Salmon roses are more elegant, perhaps more reserved,

Still showing enthusiasm, with an elegance, preserved.

A rose shaded coral signals romantic feelings have matured,

They are gifted to someone once a bond is well formed,

Pink roses are gentle and show gratitude,

They aren’t the best choice to present in solitude.

Green roses symbolize nature, life force, and energy,

In some culture symbolic of birth and fertility.

Mint roses suggest fresh starts and often good cheer,

Think birthdays, graduations, or an apology, sincere.

Blue roses do not mean that you are sad and blue,

Quite contrary, they are for, someone longed for and true.

Violet roses are associated with sensitivity and expanse,

Gift them if your interest is for knowledge, not romance.

Purple roses are rare, sometimes reserved for royalty,

They are for special occasions, perhaps to show loyalty.

A burgundy bouquet signifies deep passion and desire,

Buy a mixed bunch, instead, for a family member you admire.

And last, and maybe least, you can find a bounty,

Of multicolored roses in stores, often just novelty.

Roses need not be expensive, just beautiful, and fresh,

A perfect way to speak your love, in any language.
