The Dolphin’s Home

Dolphins in Monterey Bay, California, Circa 2018.

Anchored offshore, land over the horizon, no more, atop the reef, unseen beauty, below, there adrift,

Calm, with light waves, a cool breeze, warm sun rays, an escape from the world, for a moment, as we fished.

We knew fish were there, confirmed when appeared, a dolphin, sleek, silent, and graceful,

Mixed words aboard spoke, while dorsal fin, water broke, path deliberate, and yet, rather playful.

Some aboard felt quite blessed, then there were the rest, Upset, catch at risk, would prefer to be alone,

Believing themselves entitled, unsympathetic, and quite riled, were we not visitors in the dolphin's home?

Many humans lack care, for this planet we share; Mankind is but one of Earth's species,

Ownership of property, and most laws of society, Unaware, inhabitants of seas, and natural breezes.

Nature is best when it is a clear canvas, of white, which many see, as void and empty,

White light conceals, what a rainbow reveals, the presence of all colors, a beautiful bounty.

The inability to see, what is there, the plenty, may explain what is done to the land,

Each day people perish, in homes that they cherish, for borders, disputes, and empires planned.

There is a mystique, and mankind is unique, the belief that what is seen must be controlled and owned,

I say with some sorrow, better to consider that we borrow. Forces can easily take back what's been loaned.

Perhaps Yang and Ying, a constraint, and blessing, the majority of the world's surface is the ocean,

You'd think we could learn and shed selfish concerns, to coexist in harmony; what a notion!

The dolphin, unaware, with no reason to care, perhaps blessed by the inability to understand,

to comprehend, debate laws, or pretend, request compensation, or make other demand!

He swam with such joy, some aboard were quite annoyed, fish tossed to the dolphin to eat,

Outnumbered, you see, who did not want company, most thought the dolphin friend, not enemy.

The lesson to me, from a dolphin, at sea, is to return to life simple and without care,

The world that I seek, to hold, and to keep, exists, on this planet, it's there!

There is something more, for us living ashore, timeless wisdom, in front of our eyes,

On Earth there is peace, with hostility ceased, balance, harmony, in the ocean, not disguised.

For unique is war, and things many abhor, to a species that believes itself superior,

Will kill, hurt, and maim, and die just for fame, or no reason, that just seems inferior.

In the canvas of life, of all colors, true white, there is good, love, and oh, so much beauty.

There is evil, true, and it is within view, though perhaps, only mankind, uniquely.

Merlin once taught, to change a king's thought, see the world as only animals only do,

To a bird, no borders, to a dolphin, no orders, absurd how man lives is their view!

Thus a call to action, will give satisfaction, you can make a change and take a stand,

Inhabitants are all beings, air and water breathing, all creatures in water and dry land.
